Oakleaf Images

I’ve launched my photography website, Oakleaf Images.

Eventually serving the purpose of displaying my portfolio, it also includes coursework and assignment pictures as well as snapshots from my iPhone.

More details to follow, but head on over to the site and have a look around.

I’m still uploading content to flickr where I’m hosting all my stuff and the process should be complete in a couple of weeks.

I was a bit worried about running in deep snow this morning, but I managed to run quite a lot of the way on the roads.  They’re fairly clear for the most part, and quite free of traffic at that time in the morning.

I almost slipped on one corner, but I kept my footing well for the rest of the route.

I got some priceless looks from people as I passed them in 12-14″ of snow but what the hell! :-D

It was two 10-minute intervals today and I have a 25-minute interval to look forward to on Friday, weather permitting.

If I’m managing okay in shitty conditions like this, then maybe it’ll be easier once all the snow and ice has gone.  Here’s to dry tarmac and pavements! ;-)

After a weekend of over-indulgence I was expecting to really suffer, but I managed okay in the snow.  I had it in my head I was doing 3-5-3-5 intervals so it was a bit of a surprise to find out it was an 8-5-8 day.

Two 8-minute intervals on Wednesday.  Hoorah! ;-)

C25K week 5 complete!

Hey, who’d have thought it?  I ran for 20 minutes straight today, thus completing week 5 of the program!  The hardest part was the first incline up Mossley Road, but I kept going through it and I’m so glad I did!

There was a lot of ice at the junction of Mellor Rd and Darnton Rd and I was convinced I was going to slip at one point, but the rest of the way was clear and I finished with a good distance.

How much harder can week 6, or even 9 be now? :-)

Big psychological step-up today with two 8-minute intervals.

I managed both very well though, and having looked at my Google map, I covered 2.1 miles in the 20 minutes before the cooldown instruction.

I’m starting to think I can actually do this 5K thing. I have a constant 20-minute interval to come on Saturday, and I’ll be really interested to see how much further I can get towards the magic 3 mile distance.

Watch this space!

“Umbrella Specular Portrait” Assignment

Strobist.com’s Lighting 102 Course.
Link: Assignment 2, “Umbrella Specular Portrait”

The basic idea of the assignment was to shoot a portrait with a specular reflection of the shoot-through umbrella showing up on a darkish, semi-reflective surface behind the subject.

I struggled to find something to use as the background, but eventually decided on the kitchen cupboard doors.

Thanks to Jean for being my vict model. :-)

The middle one is my final submission to the group assignment pool.

Back on track

weighloss category

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I jumped on the bathroom scales this morning.  I knew I’d have put weight on just from the excess water I was carrying due to all the carbs I’ve been taking in over the last week.

I was pleasantly surprised to see it was only 6lb, it feels like a lot more! :-D

I’ll soon shift this as I’ve dropped excess carbs from my diet completely now, and I’ve upped my water intake again to a more healthy level.  The running should also keep me on target for this week.  I’m hoping to show a zero balance, or even a deficit when I get weighed at weekend.

I’ll switch back to my TFR regime around half way through the week and I’ll be back in the saddle in the first part of the new year.

This was the first morning I really felt like going back to sleep instead of hitting the streets. Completely my own fault – I was out at the pub with mates all afternoon yesterday!

Anyway, I dragged myself out of bed later than usual and gave it a go, not expecting too much. I made the first 5 minutes jog okay even though it was mainly uphill to Fountain St. I got the instruction to slow to a walk just as I drew level with a sour-faced security guard at the hospital with a fag stuck out the corner of his mouth. His expression spoke volumes, but I’m past caring what people think any more. :-P

The rest of the run went great, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of the 8-minute intervals on Wednesday.

Not sure how I’m going to cope with day 3 this week as I have a massive New Year party planned that might leave me immobile for most of the Friday. Might be saturday this week! :-D

Well how about that? Christmas morning and I was out before 5am completing week 4!

I ran on the road all the way to avoid the ice and slush and managed to get quite a bit further than usual in the time.

Week 5 looks a bit scary, but I’m looking forward to it.

Merry xmas, all! :-D

The half-frozen, shitty slush made it really tough going in places, but I kept at it and managed to complete the exercise without stopping. I didn’t get into the zone until the last 5-minute interval on Stamford Street.

It should be a lot easier once the snow’s gone, so perhaps it’s doing me a favour! :-|
